Hi everyone! I'm new here and will be posting some random things that I have found lately to see if you guys can help me determine if they are artifacts or just wishful thinking. I'll start with my "foot rock". I found this on the Texas coast laying on the beach. Maybe it's asphalt but it is very smooth and flat on two sides. It also has spots that look like wear marks. I just don't know if it's an artifact or a geofact. Thanks in advance for any input.

Looks like a worn river rock to me. The flat long edge is were it sat a long time "sanding" its self on another rock(s).

So when you say "foot rock" is that because you should have kicked it aside with your foot??

No.. all kidding aside, I think this is wishful thinking.
Finding smooth rocks on the beach is common.
Finding one where all the others are jagged has potential.

Keep looking and have fun

Probably so, lol. Actually, I think I'll paint it like a converse shoe and put it in my craft booth. :laughing7:

Looks like a natural rock I always think everytime I see someone post an artifact to see if it was a tool or something used by Natives. If I was an Indian and made an axe or hammer or arrowhead I don't think it would turn out very, lets say professional looking, or even recognized as what I intended it to be lol So my thought is ya never really know!!! Some yes are easy to tell and made well but there were a lot of em like me that were not good at making artifacts. Toss in a possible dose or 3 of peyote!!!!Just a thought lol

Hi Susie and welcome!

I don't see the figure of a tool there but the medium is spot on. I've seen many large tools made from that type of stone. I don't know what it is but if you're spotting this stuff you're on the right track.

Best wishes and happy hunting!

Will a powerful magnet stick to this sample?

To me, just identifying various items that were worked or shaped or broken or lost all those years ago Make me feel like the recipient of a wonderful technology thousands of years in the making. It
doesn't have to be perfect, it doesn't have to have a certain style. It just has to show the hand of ancient man. Don't let anyone dissuade you. keep looking with that sharpened eye of yours and expect the best.

It will come! Good luck!
