Natural or Artifact?

I found this odd-shaped stone while hauling out my turkey (therefore, I left it lay). Not sure if it was shaped by natives in this area or if it is a natural rock. I have found many points and pottery shards in this canyon. Location is southern Utah on private land. As you can see, the stone is lying next to another with flint flakes and chunks on and around it.

Looks like it could be a piece of a busted heavily used metate. The lichen on the rock makes me think it has some age to it.

Can you determine what type of stone the relic is made from?

It didn’t look like they fit, but I didn’t try to fit them together physically. Looks like I better go back this summer and examine further. I’m a geology-challenged guy. I’m not sure what type of stone it’s made from.

Interesting. Thanks for the feedback. I think you’re right - Fremont and Paiute indians spent time all over central and southern Utah.
