This item was found along spoon river in Fulton Co. Illinois probably 40 yrs ago. Was given to me by my uncle. Have always wonered if nature done this or if its Indian made? Was found just as is with the round rock inside the holder. Quarter is for sizing.
Thanks Mike

don't know but looks good to me

If that is a quarter beside it then it's to small to be a Nutting Stone. The round object may be a Stone Marble though, but most of those were early settler and not Indian.

Sorry I can offer any info, but I think Dorkfish is on the right track.

Could be either, your image doesn't offer enough qualifiers to determine which. We do find natural items that are similar to yours with great frequency on some of the older rivers.
