Found this little circle thing about 1/2 inch across, 3/4 inch with the nubs. One side says" U.S.C, DBIT, MICH. The other side I can make out: IN, what looks like an X then U.S.N, then the blob of corrosion. I gave it a peroxide bath and the S on the U.S.C. came off with the corrosion so I don't want to mess with it anymore. In the same spot I pulled out a 1961 lincoln, a 1964 Jefferson nickel, a 1965 Rosie(just missed silver), then 2 marbles and a 1952 Rosie(Yeah!).

Cool find, hope some one here can identify it, ya might post it in the what is it section.

The circle thing appears to be a bale seal! A bale seal was clipped on mail bags, sacks of produce, and sometimes sacks of money! Bale seals have been used since roman times, but yours is probably from the 1700's, it could be railroad though.

I found a bale seal from the Boston, and Albany Railroad , here is a photo:

Also, nice silvers :icon_thumright:!

Congrats on your first silver.... it is all down hill from here...GL&HH!

Thanks everyone, you are correct! I went and searched for these seals used in Michigan and nothing yet, but I will continue the research, I want to know who, where and why.
