NC - Cottonpatch panning

I went out to the Cottonpatch mine to get a take home bucket and pan a single bucket this weekend.
The were busy getting material ready for people but the one fellow said the creek was dry.

All I got from my single bucket was 2 very small spliters of gold. I hope the take home bucket is better but I am not holding my breath. I think I will wait until spring to go back.

I hope you do better on your take home bucket, but I doubt it. Cottonpatch has really gone down hill since the new ownership took over last year.I may go to the "appreciation" dinner just in case they have better gold and prizes. The regulars that were there a year ago don't come anymore and the "new" regulars think they are getting good gold even though they are paying more and getting less. I would rather take the dredge to the creek and get a little than pay for next to nothing. Last time I went I got 10 small pieces of gold in 10 buckets. New owership is running a commercial mine and removing the gold even though they won't admit it. All I have heard from them the past year isthey are hitting a goog vein, but I don't see the results. I feel sorry for the folks paying good money to participate in the community digs they have. You read their forum and the only thing said is "didn't find much gold, but made new friends". Making friends is fine, but I expect to see good gold if I pay them money and then do all of the work.

I've been to Cottonpatch, and it's slim pickings for sure. Best thing to do is find your own spots.

hey its getting better there i have found pickers some weekends and not others there making a better place down at the creek to highbank all your going to need is a highbanker not a pump jeff is going to fix it where everybody can hook up to one pump

I went last weekend and got an 1/8th of a load of dirt and sleuced it at the creek. The creek was definitely down but the recirculating pump kept enough water flowing. I ended up with about 2 grams and since I spent 50.00 bucks I guess I just about broke even. I think with some water and a dredge there is some good possibilities. gf
