Hello Folks!

I dug this up a few years back at an old beach/jetty area. It was pretty deep down -- about a foot I'd say. The area is rich with maritime/shipbuilding history way back into the colonial era. I thought this might be from an old ship, but who knows? Looks like bronze (brass?). As you can see, the front has high detail, the back is rough, and shows how it was cast. It's about 2.5 inches wide. There's a round groove/depression in the center there, maybe for a screw, or whatever it was that went through that hole...

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Brendan

Neat find Brendan. What is the diameter of the item? In the photo it appears that there may be a makers name or some small writing on the front top edge and left edge... do you have a magnifying glass? It would sure help if there were info stamped on it. -Ben

depending on its size..looks like it could be an accent piece for a teardrop style drawer pull..or possibly a door knob rosette

they were made in many sizes and styles.

It's about 2.5 inches wide. I'll check with a magnifier later, but I'm almost positive those marks you're referring to are just decorative notches.

Thanks!

I agree. Some sort of furniture escutcheon from a drawer pull. Probably Victorian.
