I'm working on a project to detect gold and silver only.
Some of you may be aware.

I've been successful with a gold or silver objects being placed in the ground and my detector signaling a find.
But as one of the posters mentioned. It could be sensing the disturbance of the soil.

Any thoughts on how you could place something in the ground and somehow match the conditions of the soil around it?

Two explain further. I have objects in the ground for two plus weeks.
but that is still not the same as 50 plus years.

Maybe possibly dig down past a depth you could possibly MD. Then tunnel with small trowel into a depth you'd like to try. Place items and "repack" soil as best possible...? At least all the soil above will be undisturbed.

Would something like that idea possibly work.... or am I missing the point..? Best of luck to you.

Thats actually a good idea.
Dang you're smart.
It is what I need, the soil directly above not to be disturbed.
Thanks

Now let's not get carried away here. But glad you can possibly make some version of the idea work for you.

If you dug a big enough 1st hole maybe you could possibly use a spade shovel to just split the soil and insert your objects. No repacking would be needed...? Maybe just a thin stick to push the objects into the slot made by spade.

After your super fantastic idea. :laughing7:

The idea is dig down, 3-4 feet. use a wet vac to suck the dirt out sideways at an upward angle. 3 or 4 feet from original hole.

filling the side angle hole will be a challenge. but possible

Hi. Typically here when testing a new gold detector, im not a fan of buried targets myself, we find an embankment and use whatever, hand auger or steel rods hammered in, to create the holes at varying depths leaving all the above in tact.
This video will give you an idea what I mean.

you guys are great.

Believe it not, I've been pondering this for weeks. How to test undisturbed ground.
I live in a flat land area, swamps all around, but I certainly can dig a few feet down before hitting water, then drill sideways.

Good luck with it all. 👍

Can't believe you just mentioned "drill"....! I was just out in my woodshop and ran across several 18"-24" X 3/4" drill bits. I thought of your project. If you got hold of one you could easily DRILL back a long ways and then deposit your gold or silver after the 1st hole is dug down. A cordless drill would easily do the job if the bit was turned down to 1/2" to chuck up or get a larger drill to handle it. A drill bit would make quick work and you could work it around in the dirt to just the size you need.

just got back from Lowes, got 3/4 - 18", and 2 12" extensions

Here's another drill bit option for you. I use these bits when planting flowers.

That worked out great guys.
I did a quick 1-foot test for gold verse a dime.
the detector triggered only the gold.
I'm about 36 inches in under the ground using dowel rods
3 times, moving it around, it only signaled the gold location

my hole is too small though,
3/4 is a very tight.
set wife to get an 1-1/2" bit

Of course, I found the only place in the yard where a pvc pipe is running through.
I'm about 3 feet down. so I'll try to get a little deeper and test as low as I can go.
