I'm ready to purchase another metal detector and I need help.

The only real experience I have with them is the turn on and go kind.

The one we have now is a Bounty Hunter / Quick Silver from Cabella's.

When I search around online I become overwhelmed with info, features, and prices.
Kind of hard to do a side by side comparison online.

I'll be searching all different terrain's....Fields, Woods, Creek and River edges.
I'd also like to be able to get in the water from time to time.

Could anyone out there clue me in to features / brands / capabilities ?
I'm not afraid to spend a few hundred bucks on one but I don't want to drop a grand if I don't have to.

Please help!

Thanks

Every machine I've ever owned (Tesoro, White's, Garrett) has had a water-proof coil. So you can go into fresh water as long as you keep the control box out of the water. Sounds like you'd be happy with a Relic Machine. Personally I don't think you can beat a Tesoro. Lightweight, dependable, and once you learn the sounds you'll have a good idea what's under the coil.

If you want a display machine, go for a mid to higher price machine with more notches...the larger the range, the less you'll have it bouncing around all over the place. Personally I'd go with a White's machine if you want a display. (Lots of Garrett fans here, but I've never had good luck with them.)
