Looks like I can make out a xx79 date (1879).

Thanks don, I can see that too. But, the stars were gone after 1860, so that can't be the date? I also see 1839 possibly..
 

Since you didn't mention the denomination, I assumed it was a quarter (stars through 1891). So it must be a dime, is that it?

Jeepers, how did I forget to mention that it is a dime? Oops lol.
 

Sorry to bug the coin gurus in this forum with my very ugly dime. It's my oldest silver find by far, and I'm still excited.

I'm thinking that with the stars, it must be 1860 or earlier--is this correct? I found a picture of another very worn dime with a date of 1838. After comparing, I think this might be the date on my coin as well. Opinions?
