If you turned it sideways, could it be a lantern base designed to be mounted on a vertical surface like a wall or carriage? The finial would hang underneath?

thank you! and maybe so.................. from what i can tell it is cast brass and the bottom unscrews from the tp

I think it's a light/lamp from a carriage, turn it side ways.
