Hello bigredd,

From here, it looks like a jelly or jam jar. What does the bottom look like? I think I see a valve mark. What's the lid made of? Please take it off, and get all focusy on it, and the various views, perhaps a bit closer to the natural light. What's the size / capacity?

I found this listing in a list of Fruit Jars:

" UNLISTED OLD OAKEN BUCKET ON TIN LID GLASS BUCKET..$65
UNLISTED THE OLD OKEN BUCKET ON TIN LID ONE GLASS BUCKETT..$65.00" Half Pints

"The Old Oaken Bucket" is a sentimental poem by Samuel Woodworth, 1817.

How'd you come upon it?

I've just read up on "The old oaken bucket that hung in the well" and it was a poem by Samuel Woodworth, born 1784 and died 1842 he was from Scituate Massachusetts.

This is probably a fruit jar of some kind with a tin lid Im guessing? That may be worth some historical value to a collector in Massachusetts. How did you find it and more pictures please!

was at my moms place in south east Missouri. As far as I remember no marking on bottom . It is about 4-6 oz capacity . My mom like it so I let her have it so more pictures will be a while as I don't get to see her as much as I'd like. the lid looks like tin.

That surely reminds me of some 1930s snuff jars I have here. One tin lid speaks for itself. The embossed "UST" almost certainly represents UNITED STATES TOBACCO (1922-2001), the maker of prominent snuff brands.

It looks a lot like your snuff jars, maybe what it is.
