HI!

I have attached photos of numerous types of rocks that were found after a dredge operation. I found tons of fossilized bones which were easily identified, but I'm not sure what type of rock/fossil/mineral the posted photos depict. Please help!! I've numbered the photos and will add a little description to assist!! Thanks!!!!

1. These rocks are a little hefty and have iron pores running through them. There are also shiny parts.

2 and 3. These rocks are smooth and black on the outside, but fade to a brownish/gray inside. They also have very distinct and perfect holes or chambers that go through some of them.

4. These rocks are very smooth and have pock marks or indentations.

5. These rocks are very rough and have a shiny glare. They seem very lightweight for their size.

6 and 7. This rock is rough. It has distinct layers and there are a few shiny areas.

9. These rocks resemble the rocks in pictures 2 and 3. The only difference is that they are not smooth and shiny. They are more rough to the touch and not as black.

What makes those distinctive round holes or chambers?

The non combustible minerals in coal melt and fuse together. The bubbles are formed by the various gases produced during the burning of coal.
