NEED HELP IDENTIFYING OLD HOUSE BRICK TYPE!

So I always see these certain types of bricks/blocks and I do not know what they are called and during what time they were produced. They are about the size of a cinder block but are brown, and kind of smooth, with some type of repeating little indents on them. Idk if they are just around where I live but I always see them. They appear to be used as a foundation base or for spring houses on farms. Look to be from early 1900's. I couldn't find a pic online but thanks guys.

Go to google and type in foundation blocks & then go to Images and start looking.

Looks like this pic only it isn't concrete, I think it's ceramic and it's a brownish color and kind of glossy.
