I need some help identifying a rock I found a few years ago while working in south Texas.. I found it sitting on top of a pile of dirt at the construction site I was working at.. I thought maybe it was piece of petrified wood, but I'm really not sure what it is? The edges are very sharp and very hard.. The rock itself weighs close to 6 lbs.. Any help would b appreciated.. Thanks

It is hydrothermally altered, surface weathered rock. You can use a knife, nail to scratch the different parts of the rock to discern what is quartz and what is carbonate. Yellow, orange, red colors is from iron staining. Looks like there is some comb structure left over from some sulfides being present in the rock, then dissolving, though I could be wrong as your images aren't clear enough to tell.

Travertine?

No, there is no technical name for this kind of a rock.
This is something that would be generally associated with ore deposits. I don't know what you are interested in.
