Crystal structure and inclusions are correct for corundum. A local jeweler would be able to test it for you using a diamond tester. Ruby/sapphire test just under diamond via the diamond tester's heat-transfer reading.

Yours would not be considered gem quality (except by the likes of eBay and online sellers). It is, however, a very nice mineral specimen. Set it on a nice display stand, showing the crystal structure.

Thank you. A follow up question, if I want to sell, should I go to a lapidary first or get appraised and sell as is?
