I found this near a railroad and an old tack shop. Too big for a horseshoe nail and too small for a railroad spike.

I found this near a railroad and an old tack shop. Too big for a horseshoe nail and too small for a railroad spike.

Is there a a 2 digit number stamped into the head? If so, it is a rail tie nail used to date the ties when they were installed. This photo dates this nail as 1935.

No stamp and the shaft is square. Sorry for the quality of picture. Had to use phone.
