Re: Need Help ID'ing This Penny

Looks like a Masonic penny, but I'll defer to an expert on the subject.

Immy, I beleieve you are right on the button. There are a few of these on "epray" . I thought it might have been worth something but I guess I am wrong. I will try to send it back to Tulsa where it came from, maybe there is an Old Mason who would get a kick out of a 100 year old coin. Thanks Immy, Jim

Re: Need Help ID'ing This Penny

Your find is a Masonic "chapter penny," a token belonging to a member of that fraternal order's Chapter 52 in Tulsa, OK. The letters R. A. M. stand for Royal Arch Mason. The keystone, mallet, and chisel are all familiar symbols of Freemasonry. The letters HTWSSTKS are said to be the mark of the order's ancient Grand Master, and to stand for, "Hiram The Widow's Son Sent To King Solomon". The small space within the lettered circle is reserved for the member's own "mark"— i.e.,initial(s) or some other personal symbol. Because of that, a token of this type is also known as a "mark penny."
