My neighbor plowed a field close to my home. As he was walking around he stumbled upon these buttons. I'm hoping to get an ID on them, as far as I can tell the eagle button is a 16 star militia button. I have no idea on the other.

The first thing that comes to my mind is a musicians button but my mind is known to not be there when I need it!:laughing7:

I agree. The smaller one looks like a musician uniform button and the larger one is a Navy button. Looks like Civil War era.

I did want to pass this on, these buttons were found close to an old tavern where George Washington stayed in Bedford county PA. If you Google Jean Bonnet Tavern which is now a restaurant you'll see lots of history along the Forbes trail.
The buttons were located only a couple hundred yards from there.
Thanks for the input so far

any backmark info on the button with the star?

The larger button is pre-1830 Navy, often said to be War of 1812, but I'm uncertain how early the pattern started.

Is the small button one or two piece?

The larger button has 16 stars encircling the eagle, on an oval-shaped background, and its spade-shaped shield contains only stripes, not an anchor, so it is a State Militia button from the late-1810s through the late-1820s. It is shown as button GI-61 in the button-book by Alphaeus H. Albert, "Record Of American Uniform & Historical Buttons."
