need help recognising rock.

Hi all, I understand this rock is nothing special but was just wondering. I think it might be something sedimentary, as you can clearly see the layers on my second picture.

But then again, you can see crystals which is a distinct sign of an igneous rock.

schist started out life as a sedimentary rock and then was transformed (metamorphed) into a new substance.
