✅ SOLVED Need help with buckle

Typical of early South Carolina milita buckle . Dug near Charleston. Not sure if real as I don't believe it is made of brass as the only examples I can find are.

What do you think it was made of?

The reason I believe it is not brass is the concretion. I think it may be pewter
I don't think the color is right for pewter.

Pewter would be too soft, the belt latch would snap I would think.

Maybe the soil you found it in effected it more.? Tap it with a pencil maybe, does it sound dull or brassy. ? I dunno about if u want to scratch it

I scratch a very small area on the back and with magnification I can see what appears to be brass

Thanks. Not thick but I now believe it is brass. Possible a cast.

Supposed to be stamped brass I think it said..., thick is a matter of opinion I geus...
I have no idea as to worth, not rly my thing. I can only assume a whole lot.

By looking at the reverse of yours I'd say it is stamped also. Hard to cast like that. It would probably be flat back if cast..
