Need help with pewter item.

Mystery item. I'm thinking early 1900s by other finds.













I'm not gonna say what I think it is just yet. I'd like to see if someone recognizes this. It does seem to be pewter though.

It looks like a lead seal, do you see any rusty points on the edges that may have been steel wire running through it?

That reminds me that I forgot to tell you that both sides are identical and the second photo shows what I think was an opening on either side that have flattened. I apologize, that's my fault.

Thanks! I've actually found a thread on TNet with an identical find. Would you guys mind explaining how exactly this once looked and was used. It's very interesting to me.

The design is identical. I was reading about a "Boyd Clan" from Scotland having something to do with the design.
