Need help with this colonial looking tool

These finds are from a dig this fall at one of my older sites. Mid 17th century to modern finds have been found at this site . I have yet to figure out what the plier type tool is exactly . I am sure someone on here has dug one or more in the past . The hole on the jaws is tapped for a screw that I guess probably held a spring in place since you have to squeeze them to open them . thanks M.R.

I think what you have is a "heat sink" tool used to draw the heat away from an area that you are welding, brazing, soldering etc. Here is a more modern version of the tool.

Or a grounding cable clamp or the end off some really old school jumper cables... Either way it is not colonial.

I agree with DC, looks like an old welding ground clamp. The threaded hole is where the cable attached to.
