I have to make a trip to the Mobile area ( time is open ) and I got to thinking that if
I time it right I can hit spring break in Panama City but I don't want to be there when that bunch
of over sexed boys and girls are doing there thing ( I really do but at 69 I can't;
remember why ). So I'm thinking: time it to arrive on the last day of it which I
think is 3/22 ( someone please correct me if that time is wrong ) and stay for four
or five days and work my way back towards Mobile before heading home. Any thoughts
on this or idea's ? I will be in my motor home so I can stay or move at will. How close
to the beach will I be able to park ? Is parking over night allowed ? Permits ? ETC, ETC.
Any input welcome .

The wife and I have detected from Gulf Shores, AL to Pensacola Beach, FL and in any of the public beach areas there are signs up that no RV's or overnight parking is allowed. You almost have to be in an RV park or a State Park to be anywhere near the beaches.

I know that Walmart is known across the country for allowing "boondockers" but the ones down here like in Foley, AL and the one in Pensacola have their own security people, never see any RVer's there.

We are staying at an RV park near Loxley, AL for the winter.

Oh and,

P.S. There is no spring break to speak of in Gulf Shores, AL, I already asked cuz I'm not too old to remember why ;D

Thanks for you input Seger98 thats very helpful to know. What about parking
in the daytime any problem there, cause I don't pull a tag-along and not
interested in walking very far.

I hit Panama City Beach for three days last spring, I will not be going there again.

There is very little parking, a whole lot of traffic, and not much in the way of treasures to be found on the beach.

The sand is hard packed and gritty and the tides bring the water very close to the hotels.

3 days there was more than I could stand, so we drove over to Pensacola beach.

Pensacola is a much more family oriented beach, much nicer sand, more areas to detect, far better parking, and we did much better there.

We also travel in a motorhome (not around Panama city though), and there is camping in and around Pensacola - but you'll want reservations at the campgrounds.

The main beach has room to park a motorhome, as do some of the smaller beaches on the island.

The only downside - a lot of people detect Pensacola beach every day, especially around the fishing pier.

But there are finds to be had - I found a very large class ring, lots of coins, some junk jewelry.

As far as parking a big rig like you are talking about, there are alot of the parking areas around the Gulf Shore area that doesn't allow them :(

I'll be going back to Arizona next winter, better detecting out there then here!

they want you to stay in the local hotels to enjoy "their" beach -- RV's parking in public spaces --don't "pay" their bills so to speak.( think of hoards of spring breakers renting mobile "hotel rooms" and staying near the beach areas)-- repeat after me " they must make money from tourist / spring breakers ".

Thanks for the reply Ivan; like I said in one of my other replies, this is going about the way I though
it would. I have been to other parts around the U.S. and found the same thing so this is not a great
surprise. Think I will go to plan B or maybe even plan C. I thank you for your input.
