I have a CW picket post that has been heavily hunted, but we have an area that has a lot of nails and bits of barbed wire that is making it almost impossible to seperate out the good targets with my stock coil. The bullets are generally showing up at 7" or so. The ground is moderately mineralized to slightly heavily mineralized. Which coil, the 4.5" X 7" Excelerator or the 6 X 10" DD would give me close to my stock coil for depth at this site? I know that both have good target seperation, but I don't know if both will give the kind of depth I need.

CW- I think you were one of the guys that recommended the MXT to me the other day. I was doing a little research and came across 45 reviews of the MXT on MetalDetectorReviews.net. Several of the guys mentioned the 6x10 dd coil for "better coverage, depth, and heavy trash" You might want to check out the site- C

Yep, love the MXT, so far its been a lot more of the kind of machine I've been looking for. I've been leaning heavily toward the 6X10 DD, just want to be sure that the 4.5 X 7 is not better for what I need it for. I have Jeff Foster's book and the 4.5 X 7 came out after the book.

I have the 4X6 DD eclipse coil on my M6, and really like it. It REALLY let's you seperate targets! I don't know if it would read a bullet at 7" or not, it might, I just don't know.

I've been using mine in the local park, and I did find a small plated locket that was down at least 5" in the mulch of a tot lot. I would think that a larger chunk of lead like a minie ball would read deeper.

I guess it depends on just how many nails you are dealing with. Sounds like the whole point of your question is getting one target under the coil at a time, I.E. target seperation. How far apart are the nails? Is a 10" coil going to get between them?

I knew you'd love it! ;) Just go REALLLY slow in those iron areas. It helps a lot! I only have the stock coil, so I can't say which one would do better. I look forward to seeing your finds from that area.
