I found these two about 5 feet apart in the field. My first thought was the plow cut it in half and the two pieces belong together, but I don't think that is the case as the cut line is too perfect and the parts of them that are torn ungracefully don't seem to match up when held together.

anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for looking and HH
Bob

Well the turnings look 19th century. I would say 1830's or so. As for WHAT they are,I don't know.

Could be, although when I hold them together the hole on either end is pretty small

Maybe it's a mould for something.

That could be possible. here is a picture of the end when I hold them together.

the only thing that would keep me from this idea is I cannot find any indication that the two pieces were actually fastened together.

They look like some type of decorative sconces. Breezie

Re: Need some help, I have no idea what these are

Notice in photo no.4 where they are laying side-by-side.

The center "bulge" of the one on the right is obviously wider across.

According to my ruler against my desk-top, the one on the left is 1 3/4" wide, and the one on the right is 2 1/8" wide. (At the center "bulge.")

Which makes them ... "The same - but different!"

Which suggest to me they are two individual pieces for a similar purpose.

But as for what that purpose was ... I dunno :dontknow:

I just thought I'd throw my hat into the ring so as to follow with interest.

This was my first instinct as well.

here is a new picture of the other end which makes me believe these were together at one time and just got mangled and deformed over time. Notice the hole on this end is not completely circular and seems to have two corners.

I have some of those that I can't seem to find but I'm 90% sure that what you have are candlesticks. Looks like the ends are just missing. I know that's what mine are.
