Hey all,

I found these items within ten feet of a cut stone foundation in the middle of the woods. Usually I can identify things within a day or two of digging them, but these two "coin looking" objects have me stumped. I found them within 3 feet of each other about 4 inches in the ground. If you can't see it very well, the one has the number 39 stamped in it with the saying "Safety First" at the top and the other just has the number 5. Let me know what you think! Thanks

Too me they look like a tag a guy would take when he pulled a piece of equipment.Maybe the cabin was a lumber camp? They could also be a tag for livestock. They are very cool what ever they are.Old for sure. Nice finds.

They look like livestock tags of course they could also be a tool tags or even something a miner would have used probably more likely to be livestock

thanks guys! ill be sure to post more finds when the leaves fall, sort of hard to get to right now

Welcome to Tnet.Sweet snake buckle and knife!

The tags have many different uses and are pretty common (at least in this area). When you find them make sure you clean them to see what is stamped on the tag. I have found about 30 of them this summer. But one of them turned out to have someone's name stamped on it. And it was a miners tag. They would hang their tag on a pegboard before going into the mine. And if an accident happened in the mine. They knew who was in there based on the tags on the board
I was able to research and find out who the gentleman was. And unfourtanetly he passed away years ago. Woulda been neat to return it to him
