I found this today on a dirt racetrack in wv. At first I thought it was a manufactured part of something, because it was caked in mud. But after scraping off the mud I realised it was worked and polished. I've never found anything like it before and I'm not sure of the material it's made of. It sits flat on both sides. Any comments or suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

??? Beats me???? good spot though.

I believe it may be a cone.

My guess would be a Cone as well. Very nice find thirty7.

I think I would take the time to walk the entire track if I was you.

Thanks guys, and I think you're right about it being a cone. I've been flipping through every artifact book trying to id this piece. I finally found a match in a recent book by Bennett. This example is squared off towards the top as well. Any ideas to what these cones were used for?

Dorkfish, most of my finds on this track are coming from one central spot, but I have found pieces scattered along the entire track. They race every week and every time I go the land looks different, it's an ideal spot, plus the atvs and motorbikes aren't heavy enough to do any real damage.
