Need some help with an old button

Hi Everyone.

I need some help ID'ing an old button I found last week.

It was found in a public common in South Central Mass. I believe it is copper.

I would say, not a button. You can see where a larger stem has been sheared off. No-idea what its from.

Crusader - I kinda had the same thought that it might not be a button. Given the style of the 5 and the fact it was found in an area that dates back to the mid-17th century, my first impression was that it might be some sort of button or fastener for military equipment/gear.
