Need some help with ID

I'm pretty sure this is a rifle sight and I am thinking its Civil War era given the area we are hunting. Any help would be much appreciated.

I agree - looks like a musical instrument reed (probably note "D", since it has that mark).
When I first looked at this, I thought it might be from an antique wood plane.
But you can see where the reed is broken off.

I saw one on The Hoover Boys and they said reed.

a fairly common find that is a regular each year on the 'what is it' forum. I've found a couple myself over the years here in my small town

I have found a few reeds like this that have a patent date on the rounded end. Can't really tell if yours has one there, but definitely a D note reed maybe from a pump organ.
