Need some help with ring please....

I found this in an old swimming hole. It has a Amethyst setting and is 14kt gold. It looks old to me but I dont know anything about jewelry. Only thing on the inside of the ring is w-w-w or it could be m-m-m, depends upon which way you hold. Can anyone tell by the way the stone is set how oldit might be. My wife wears it now and we were just wondering how old it might be. In the area I found it I found silver coins from 1903 up to 1964...Thanks...d2

I sure would like to see that thing closer....The stone appears to me to be pink, not purple?

Nash, it was just the way the light from the flash hit it. Plus it wasnt an amethyst that had a lot of deep color. Carried it to a jeweler and he said it was an amethyst and tested the ring at 18kt. They cleaned it up put one of those spacer things in it so the wife could wear it. She lost it last week somewhere in the house...d2
