...found this today in a small patch of woods near the river. It wasn't deep, only about an inch down. It's unmarked, except for the words "solid brass" stamped into the reverse side of the buckle. I'd like to know what year it's from/how old it is, if possible. Any help is appreciated. Pics are below. Thanks.

Once plated maybe. Good luck finding age on that one. Tons of buckles made over the years. Does look like it was made for a leather strap. Here's a similar one from a cop gunbelt. The frame on the one you found looks bent, so it doesn't appear to be as heavy duty as this one.

Got one like that on one of my large old back braces also. The one they used to put on me with the wrap-around arms.
 

That does look old. . . my guess would be horse tack related from the early 1900's.
