Went with the girlfriend today she found this coin not sure if a token or a coin. Hoping you guys and gals can help its slightly smaller than a quarter thanks

Not sure but looks really early! (French is my WAG but I'll wait to find out!)

Can you make out any of the writing around the edge? I see something on the side with the "rays" but can't make out the characters (something like MAR at about 8 o'clock on the first pic)

I thought so too at first but the more I looked at his coin the more I was convinced it was a different (yet similar looking) coin. Not sure why.

I don't think it is a Cap & Rays Reale. Some of the rays on the relic coin are 'wavy'. It looks like a pattern of 1 wavy, 3 straight, 1 wavy...
