I went into an old mine shaft about 30 years ago. About 100 feet in I herd a rattle, I do not think my feet hit the ground more thn once before I was out of the tunnel. Never again.

I've run across five rattlers in mines last spring alone. My mining partner catches them and donates them to biomed research.

If he's not along, I feed them 10mm peace pills.
 

I'm thinking it's a thin layer of gypsum crystals. Some can grow quite large and are often found in underground seams, cavities and vugs.
 

Yeah that's totally gypsum. Still cool though. You can find stuff like that in shafts? I might get more brave...
