**New Akaline Batteries-- versus --** Fully charged Rechargables??

Which is the better deal? We have our annual club beach hunt this Sat morning. I was thinking of trying the alkalines?
I know that fully charged (2450mAh) NiMH read about 1.4v give or take yet a brand new alkaline can read over 1.5v. So my question for maximum efficiency. Which is the better of the two?
For normal everyday detecting I usually just stick with my rechargables.

The voltage in NiMH is lower, but your detector will adjest for that. The problem with Nimh is that it self discharges. If you charge just before you use them, this is no problem But if you charged them last week forget it. The new Lithium ion or lithium polymer that are just coming out will hold a charge for a very long time.

Modern detectors use Voltage regulators. For instance my V3i is set to approximately 8v. That means the detector runs on 8v no matter if the pack is reading 13v or 9v. The alkalines won't give you an advantage.
