A new Coastal farm site I started hunting last week . Property management is using the old barn on this farm to house their equipment .Four new house lots are for sale on the farm that has already lost land to urban sprawl. The 1830's house and pasture overlooking Casco bay is not going to be developed. I guess it has entered into a public landtrust. My mouth watered when the property management guys gave me the go ahead. I sometimes think it helps to be in a company truck . There was a beautiful orchard , I walked down to the Bay seeing abandoned farm equipment here and there and then saw there was a dock system in place at one time . A Dream site :icon_sunny:. Last friday after work I decided to start in the Orchard I usually have luck in the orchard. . 16 trees left. With some nice looking apples still on the trees . Beautiful flat area, easy swinging / nothing :icon_scratch: 2 and a half hours I had one wheat penny and a little bit of junk . Ok that area has been hunted out . Move on to the house lawn, They could not have gotten everything . 3 hours Saturday morn on the beautiful but a little overgrown lawn right up to both doorsteps and basically got skunked again clad only :icon_scratch: .Before I left I spent 2 more hours crisscrossing the pasture to see if I could find any hot spots and came across a big brass washer deeep ! A few deep lead pieces close by and then the Peweter rosette with the leather backing still on it poped out of the pasture. I had to leave ! But noted the area. Got back there today after work and worked that area hard .Evidently there was another barn out in the pasture away from the main house and barn at one time . Today I was finding more lead flashing then the big cast Iron mount that still has a nail in it. Then I got a real good signal and 14 inches down the brass spur pops out ! I was elated once I figured out what it was. Now I wanted the other one too ! or at least the rowel Piece brocken off . ! ;D Thought I had it too when I heard the same sweet tone 10 feet away . Nope the Brass wagon trim ?? I guess ! :dontknow: some chain pieces and some more lead and that was it . getting dark This is all I got for ten hours on this farm so far but there is a lot more land If I can find the patience to hunt it ! :laughing9: I do like the spur though :icon_sunny:. It is solid brass . Though it is quite small and I think too delicate for military use ? . Thanks for looking ! M.R.

That is a cool find.

Sorry the "dream site" is not panning out all that good. Some places are like that. As my brother would say; "It is hunting, not gathering."

Nice finds. That is a good looking spur.

ive had quite a few spots that looked absalute like a dream site and then nothing. i hate when that happens. nice spur though i havent found one of those. willy

Great spur MR!! Is the brass mount that had the nail in it from a wooden saddle tree? HH, Quindy.

Great spur Dave. I read a post once where someone found a spot where people mounted and dismounted their horses and he did real well. When ever I am at a old site that is one of the first thing I try to find or imagine. (where did the guests tie their horses?)I've not found a spur yet...good job Goldbill

Nice Piece! that is a pretty item

MR, Nice digs , gettum while you can ! Way too much development :-\ but that's just the way it is . Usually where you find equestrian relics there will be somemore old goodies . Hope you get them before they are lost forever . HH dawg
