my brother "mcphill" is looking to buy a new metal detector. he likes the fact that both my 1280x and jw fishers pulse 8x can work on land or underwater. he seems to be leaning toward an infinium ls or the minelab excalibur. I was wondering if anyone could give us a their perspective on what machine they would buy and why. personally the pulse 8x kicks butt very deep although the discrimination on the 1280x saves digging trash, which is why I own both.
1. which machine and why
2. will any machine do both reliably
3. it must be useable on land,in water,in salt water
4. please tell me if any other machines should be included
5. by all means add any info you think is relative
