Well my Wife and I have been working on the house . We fixed up the living room and my Wife said she would like some of my early license plates displayed on the wall ! I have waited for this day for nearly 19 years of marriage
. I put them in shadow boxes and hung them up last night ! The license plates that are displayed are all leather except the K17-52 INDIANA witch is metal .
Here are the dates
#5985 leather is 1907 Kansas
#66534 leather is 1909 New York
#3771 leather is 1903 New Jersey ( my oldest in my collection )
K17-52 metal is 1912 Indiana
#4394 leather is 1908 Maryland
#18155 leather is 1908 Iowa
The final picture is a display in my home office .
I have been collecting for 31 years and really enjoy the early U.S. pre states that are homemade . Pre state means they pre date the first state made and issued license plate . Before that a number would be issued and the owner would be responsible to make a number tag for the vehicle .
Hope you enjoy !
