Firstly Land-Mag had done some great prep work with the owners of this new land. They have had 1 trusted detectorist for 15 years & after only 30 minutes of chatting to the owners, they said we could do a field next to the house that they had never let anyone on. It has 2 ring ditches (1 over 25 metres in diameter), maybe Bronze Age but I was hoping for Iron Age.
However, we started on the field we planned on which had an interesting looking enclosure near a roundhouse feature. We didn't get much in that area but then found a linear feature with Roman Pot Shards spread across it, so we worked this area & got a Roman Fibula each, plus a poor quality Silver plated Roman Coin.
Still got plenty of searching to do, but this is another farm chalked up to our relationship with the Archies, one who is pretty famous & was a family friend of the owner.
We had instant trust which is never any easy thing to overcome!
