I had to go to do something for work today and when I was finished I figured I would take a drive out through the country to see if I could find a new spot to hunt. I drive for what seemed like forever and I went up over this huge hill and when I got to the bottom of the other side it opened into a huge valley with a nice creek running along. I saw this really nice big field up on the left and after knocking on a few doors I found out who owned the field and went to his house. When he came to the door I introduced myself and asked for permission and he never even hesitated and said sure, go right ahead young man and be sure to stop by when you're through to show me what you found. What a great guy!!!

I drove back up to the field and the first thing I noticed was it was washed down flat as a pancake. Also, it was right at the confluence of two nice size creeks and I could see the creek had came up out it's banks and ran down through the field. It had washed down to the hard pan and a I found three of the Points in pockets along the path where it ran through. I only got to hunt it for two hours and found 6 Points, a crude little Flint Celt, 2 pieces of Trade Pipes, both Stem pieces, and some broken stuff.

I wne t back down to the house to show him what I found and he asked if I hunted the field that went up the holler and I said no and he said it was the better spot. I asked if I could come back and he said I was welcome anytime so I'll be back up there first thing Friday morning. I drove back up and looking at the field and the creek had ran down through it too so I'm really anxious to get back up there.

Here's some pics of what I found. So far from what I found it looks to be a Middle Woodland site. These are the better in situs and in hand pics.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

OMG what a lucky break. Good for you Steve, you totally deserve it. What a nice guy he is. I really love that little red one. All nice finds! :notworthy:

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

congrats on the nice finds and on the new fields.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Congrats on the new hunting place and the nice finds. Looking forward to seeing results of your next round of hunting. These kinds of places are getting few and far between.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Good day there Stevo, you gotta love new fields that produce like that...and nice landowners are always a plus.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Quite productive you should clean your footwear by taking a little peek at the creek next time too:)

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Thanks everyone.

Josh, I plan on hitting the creek as well. It looks like it had lots of gravel bars on it.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Having permission just takes all the pressure off! Get back there soon! :icon_thumleft:

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Nice, I like the little pipe stems, I hope you find a whole one. Good luck!

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

The confluence of two creeks! What more can you ask for?! Only two hours?! Man, I can't wait to see what you find if you can spend a half day or more there. Nice job Sir.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Wow, great work Steve! There's nothing better than finding a great landowner and land that's producing nice artifacts!

Look me up if you want someone to walk with (I'm in Ohio, too).

Good luck on the rest of the land!

Shane

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

That's pretty good for a cold call.

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Very nice finds, SRV! :hello2:
And I'm glad you found a nice landowner  .

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

was reading a post in the metal detector forum about this person that asked permission to hunt on someones property! Owner says "Sure, let me know what ya find". Later on, person shows owner what they found (coins) and owner took them and said "wow, thanks".... :BangHead:

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Steve, man seeing those pipes...... Maybe ya need to swing a coil over that place. I would have to try. I had a site like that along the ohio in Campbell Co. Ohio. It produced numerous points but, also glass beads, gunflints etc.

Is that a broken Pentagonal? We do not see to many in my area.

Chuck

Re: New Field = Some Good Finds

Here's the pieces I found today. The Stanly and the first Birdpoint came from the so called better spot, but it way to many rocks in it to see much. You can see that in the in situ of the Stanly. The big black Point and the other Birdpoint came from the field I hunted last night. I met the farmer again today and he told me to come back anytime I wanted and that he was going to be turning it again real soon if it dries out.
