Hey, found this one the other day in overhang, stuck to side of a large tree root (great at catching artifacts). Posted a couple pics at end of one of my other posts. Figured I really like it, the material and color is pretty different from all the browns, red stuff found here. Thought it merits its own little post. Enjoy, comments welcome. Besides the color it has an unusual look to it.

Quartzite is what it looks like in the quasi-focused pics. :laughing7: I'd take it all day long! Good find IMO.

Great looking point! Congratulations! Thanks for posting.

Here’s the pics not zoomed in...need to take pics outside in natural light. Thanks

I think the tip and top has been re-worked at some point, or busted flaked badly during production. Flake work is different on top part than the base and lower half

Very colorful point. Congrats on the find

My 1st impression was small Adena, now I'm not sure. Nice color & a little unusual for sure.

I can't tell much by the picture on my small screen, but is that a plummet ??

I’m leaning towards a small Adena type point. I’ll try and get some natural lighted pics. Thanks

Did you find that anywhere near se Kansas? I don’t have the real name for it but I’ve always called it local chert, it’s probably the most common material I find

I did not find this in SE Kansas, although I did live in town called ‘Chanute’ Kansas about 40 years ago. Big city!! Hah. All my stuffs found in the hills of Eastern KY. Thanks

Technically I live in Erie... but really I’m out in the country, chanute is the big city comparatively haha. I’d like to track down a name for this material, another local guy who is good with materials doesn’t know either.
I suspect it’s indicative of later cultures that were more settled and used local material instead of going and getting better stuff. adena, I think, fits the time frame of the types of points I find made out of the same stuff, but I’m not super familiar with adena. to my knowledge it’s pretty rare over here so I don’t really consider it an option

I agree on the material.
