Decided to go out and get some time in before we get the snow / freezing rain. I think the large item is a broken axe (it has a hole through the thicker portion); small light bulb looking thing, not exactly sure. Maybe the head of a cane or pommel? It has screw threads on it. And my 2nd button with an eagle, so Union I reckon.

Nice button save! :occasion14:

Yep, Civil War era eagle button

Good job I hate the cold and Mi weather glad you got out and got some cool stuff

Welcome also. Tommy

If the lightbulb-looking thing has a hole through the large spherical area (or a slot at the top, or flat sides), it's most likely a Jaw Screw or cockscrew for a flintlock. The jaw screw puts pressure on the top jaw which holds the flint in place.

Nice. I like that Civil War button.

Nice hunt, very nice button, congratulations on the saves

Welcome to the forum, from upstate NY

Nice button save. Congrats. Glad you could get out in this unpredictable weather we’ve been having lately. Welcome to tnet from Niagara Falls.

Congrats on your finds and welcome to the forum from Port Allegheny, Pennsylvania

Thanks all. Definitely glad to be doing well this year. Found two Civil War buttons in the span of a month or month and a half. Other was a Script "I" Local Confederate Button.

andygold - no hole or flat sides. added some more pictures to help with the ID.
