New guy from WNC/ETN

Just got started in metal detecting (Garrett Ace 350 , and Pro-Pointer) for new hobby before deer season. Live in Asheville, NC and own a farm in Bristol, VA. Family has a farm and spend a lot of time in Johnson City, TN. Going to MD this weekend.

Questions....on a farm, what signs should I look for to determine where an old cabin or homestead used to exist? A friend said I need to look for certain type of large tree, and that would indicate where a structure possibly stood.
Any ideas? Any advice?
Looking to join an MD club if any nearby.

welcome bacusa, wish i lived down there, got a few acres in town of pisgah forest about 20 min. from asheville airport. ask mike from woodland detectors about clubs. when i was last down there i and a local club helped black mountain police locate stolen jewelery. great hobby.

hi guys , east tenn guy here, i actually forgot about this section ..i blame old age and to many kids,,,lol

any way i am still pretty new to MD and me and my 13 yr old do it together , it has been a real task for us finding spots to detect, and i am not sure where a group could get together at ?
but we are willing to talk and see what we can figure out .

Im from greeneville but live in kport now had to sell md so now mainly trying to find a place to pan as far as areas to MD i had some luck at Netherlands park
