New place to MD

I think I might have a new place to MD! I’m hoping anyway. I was looking on Google Earth and found an old homestead that was originally 160 acres but now it’s 80. They sold off half of it. They kept the half with the old house, sheds and the barn. Looking further into it I found the old log cabin on the map. I use 3 apps to find places… Google Earth, Regrid and FastPeopleSearch. Google Earth to locate properties, Regrid to find out the owner and FastPeopleSearch to find out where they live and their phone number.
I called the number listed for the owner and he answered. So I told him a bit about me and my wife and that we just started this hobby. I asked if he would consider letting us search and he was all for it. But his brother is half owner and he said he would have to ask his brother about it and call me back on Monday. His family history… it’s his great-great grandfather’s homestead. He moved from Germany in 1840. He was a farmer and also owner a tavern close by the farm. His great grandfather was a medical doctor who ran his practice at the farm. His grandfather was a dentist who had his practice in the building of his dad. His dad was an engineer/architect who designed sports complexes. All were very successful in their careers. The guy I talked to is an investment banker. None of them trusted banks. He said they didn’t want anyone else handling their money.
I’m very hopeful that they will allow us to check this place out! I’ll post a picture of the place. Bottom left is the old house built in 1920. Center right side is the log cabin. The rest of the buildings are sheds and a long skinny barn. The building just north of the old house was the tavern. The building that was the doctor’s/dentist’s office was torn down by the current owner back in 1998. The current owner is in his late 70’s.

I have a lot of rural areas near me that have/had early homesites. I use historicariels.com to see what was and to tell if it’s worth a hunt

One I'd like to share with you iss a book since your rural.
It's called "Family Maps of ____ 👈place your county here County"
It's gets ya back to the homestead days on who first "owned" the land. It's fun learning who all is still around and pick their ears while you work on permissions 🤠
I got another one for ya but brain shut down/ got side tracked thinking about a permission.
It's an insurance group that mapped everything late 1800s early 1900s. Really cool stuff.
Finding my towns old blacksmith shop site was way cool.

That’s Awesome! Thanks for the advice! I’ve got ADHD…. BADDDDD! 🤣 I get sidetracked easily and when I’m in Malwart I just zone out.🤣😃 Too much going on around me💯

To me and this is just my opinion Historic aerials are not that old in my area of ohio

The area where I plan to MD has had a lot of changes in the past 70 years or so. I went to that website and it showed where an old log cabin was and between 1945 and 1972 it was torn down. It gave me a general area where it once was. The picture is really blurry though. I’m not going to pay for the app because they wanted something crazy like $39/mo.

Yes it just goes to the 50s . But that house on the 50s map maybe be 1880s-1900. I’ve found several super old homesites that way

Gare what do you use to find 1700/1800 sites?

I have old books that tell of the very early days and some maps in them. I Look for the OLDEST maps i can get . They are had to find i might add.
