Found in central va today on a site dating from early 1700s with a good bit of CW activity. Very small, at best half (likely smaller) the size of a dime. Says “state of New Jersey” around the outside with the nj seal in the middle. Can’t see anything on the back to make me think a shank was attached. Assuming tied to CW, but not certain. Was suggested that it could have been mounted in a sword blade, near the handle, but never seen one of those with a state seal. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Agree tie pin or tie bar....In fact I seem to remember another on here before.

Link for a previous find, it was for a college.

Google search of state seal pin pins, tie bars, cufflinks.

Going with mud hut for the win. After checking with others (sorry, trust but verify) I’m in agreement it’s post CW and civilian.

And sorry for jumping straight to CW, but based on location found, and other items found in close proximity, that’s the only place my mind could go. Also, never seen one of those before, so was a bit lost.
