I'm not surprised that the US Mint isn't going to revert back to the (pre-1999) design; as it would be leaving too much money on the table. (greed mongers that they are)

I thought (and was hoping) it was only a rumor, but apparently not:

About 200 days from now, the new Puerto Rican coin of whatever design will go into production, and then into circulation following the Hawaii state quarter that concludes the 50-state series, which has been in continuous production since 1999. Designs on the quarter's reverse have changed every 10 weeks for 10 years.

In 2007, Congress altered the formula and made good a promise to add the District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and four other insular territories: Guam, Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Yeah, then after the territories, they are going to do state parks for another 10 years. :BangHead:

Wow, can't wait for my county cent! It would surely be the buzz of collectors for centuries.

On the other extreme I would like to see a cashless society in the future, but it would put a damper on the CRH hobby.

OK I had to respond to this......cash is the last resort we have to not being identified and marketed to on EVERYTHING!!!!! It would be bad enough that big brother would know everything about our purchasing habits but what about marketers... Cash is our last way of confidentiality. And not to mention that on certain aspects cash is still limited, think about how easy it would be to put unlimited blips on the federal reserve accounts for rampant inflation. Politicians can't resist printing, (or creating electronic), out of thin air to buy votes. Go back to gold and silver....it is finite and can't be reproduced. And while we're cashless might as well put a "mark" on either or hand or head. :-\
