New scoop arrived!! My first water hunt ensued.

So my new Diamond Head scoop finally arrived, and man, what a beast. I was told this thing was heavy, but holy cow. So I snuck in a late night hunt tonight, as i wont get another chance for over a week. And wow, I had no idea how hard it was to hunt waist deep. The water was not too rough, but it still rocked my world. It was amazing how much resistance the water provided, and made the coil seem so much heavier. Between the resistance and the scoop, Ill be as buff as Popeye in no time.

Well, for about 3-4 hours out, I scavenged very little. The highlight was reaching into the scoop, and feeling a huge ring. (Mind you, it was dark, and I dont carry a light). I was heartbroken to find no stamp at all on it, but, man, what a huge ring. The strangest find of the night was an unusual dogtag. Stamped RELENTLESS on one side, and G.I. 804 on the other. Any info on this item is appreciated. Other than that, I dug about 10 pieces of trash, a pair of sunglasses, and 6 Quarters, 8 Dimes, 1 Nickle, and 4 Pennies. First tiem I have found fewer pennies than any other coin.

From just this one hunt, I can clearly see I have a lot of learning to do with reguards to hunting in thwe water, and not only that, man are my arms sore!

now you see what i was talking about the diff resistance of 8" v 10" coil in water..now try a 15".......i stay sore ,arms and shoulders.but i love this hobby so much i push myself every day to go! the easyest coil i ever used in water was the Tesoro Tiger Shark,man that thing is only 1/2 thick and cuts the water like a knife in warm butter! iv got tennis elbow so bad it pops to lift a coffee cup.if i didnt have the David elbow brace i could not hunt.man to be young again! ok ,got to take my Darvacet and head for the water. good luck! Nice design. Must have belonged to a farmer. Looks like it was modeled after a front tractor tire. paint it green and the value will go up.Nice find HH

That ring still may be gold. Have the jeweler test it if you think it could be gold. Last year I found a ring with no stamp. I tossed it in the junk pile and it stayed there for months and months. One day I was going through the junk pile and saw the ring and decided, what the heck and had it tested. And guess what? GOLD!!!

Thanks for the info and encouragement. I am getting a bit discouraged, as I havent found any nice silver or any gold in about a week. Going out of town tonight, so no hunting for me for a week. Ironically enough, I will be going to a beach in florida twice while I am gone, but not comfortable taking the detector on the plane. Oh well, when I get back, the beach will see me again, and frequently.

Yes the Nuttal is a little big and heavy, one feels like a gladiator with it. But it will dig in where others won't.

I believe your ring is probably stainless steel, titanium or tungsten which are more and more poplular these days. What kind of reading did it give on your machine? The best thing would be to take it to a jeweler and see what they say.
