I took my new Shark to a beach to try it out. I air tested it on a few coins, and noticed the threshold was not steady but wavered, tried it on the sand and dug a couple bits of wire, but threshold was still wavering, not steady. Checked the batteries, they are ok, all connections seem fine. Any ideas what causes this?

Give Tesoro a call, maybe someone in the service department could answer the question for you.

The Sand Sharks threshold has a normal "warble" to it.

Thanks Fletch88, but now I have a bigger problem. I took it to the beach again today, turned it on, and........... nothing! checked batteries, wire connections, and when I got home, checked each battery, everything ok. But still no start, had all controls in the right spot, tried it again, still nothing. That never happened with any of my other detectors before. Any ideas? Will try phoning Tesoro a bit later..

Had a similar problem and this may not be good advise but sometimes the battery contacts in the control box get bent down and don't have complete contact with the pack. Hooked mine with a piece of coat hanger and bent it back where it should be and did the trick for me a few years back but be careful not to cause major damage by over bending it or ripping them out. Also check the battery pack connectors are clean.

Probably bad advise but good luck
