I took the advice of experienced hunters bsit1361, thirty7, and TnMountains and decided to search the high flat ground above the springhead. The flint was definitely concentrated in this area. The ground was dry and worked pieces were not easy to come by. A nice gray colored scraper was found along with another worked piece and a fist sized piece of granite. More than a 1/2 dozen flint pieces were fist sized. I invited a local collector to help thoroughly search the area in the next few days after some rain. Hope to have pics of good future finds. The granite piece may be nothing but it is smooth and has a flat smooth end.

Nice...glad to see that spot payed off for you. Great looking materials too. Are you sure that big piece isn't quartzite?, looks like the stuff down here. Looks like a hammerstone imo.

It could be quartzite, I don't know my rocks too well. There are many small quartz grains in the rock. I picked it up because I thought it may have been used to bust up the large flint pieces found on site. Do you think the brown colored piece could be part of a heavily damaged stemmed piece like adena?

What does the other side of that piece look like? Not the flip side but the other side of that face? The flaking looks alot earlier than woodland to me.

hmm, in that case I'd say that piece is part of an earlier tool, the flaking looks early archaic or earlier, jmho. Promising area.

The larger rock is definetlyb quartzite. trust me its 80%of my collection. Quartz quartz and more quartz, And a little rhyolite. Other peice is some tool that seems to be hafted and broken. HAPPY HUNTING.
