Back in December I was detecting a local wooded area. A passerby stopped to asked if I had dug anything good. We started chatting and he told me about a nearby place he walks his dogs. He told me there are hundreds of old bottles at the spot, and he thought it may be a good spot to detect. I was already aware of the potential spot; I have some old photos of the area. The 1951 photo below shows a church and numerous houses. The church still remains, but the houses are gone. Here is the photo:

I had a busy weekend but, with temps in the 70's I just couldn't let the weekend get away without just a little detecting. So at 4:30 this afternoon I headed out the door, promising to be home by 6. Luckily the site is less than 2 miles from my home. I parked the car on the side of the road near the church and found a lot of trash, but no coins. Finally I found the heart shaped thingy. My best guess is that it is an old picture frame. I moved further down toward the more distant house in the photo, and found the "old" bottles. The place was filled with Snapple bottles and old Miller bottles. Nothing too exciting, but I knew what used to be at the site so I had hope. There was a lot of trash, but I got a nice Dime/Quarter signal at 4.5 inches. Out popped my first Seated coin, an 1877 S Quarter!!! This beats my oldest silver by more than 20 years. The San Francisco mint mark is also unusual for a coin that old in my region. By now it was 5:45 and I needed to head home. On the way I dug the old pocket watch and the pencil sharpner handle. All in all it was a quick, but successful outing!
