Spotted a site a while ago that i thought had potential. The only sign of past life their was a row of lilac bushes. Turns out my hunch was right and there must have beem some kind of dwelling on the site. Anyways, didn't end up finding much but I walk away with a 1917 wheat and this small badge shaped item
Just wondering if anybody knows what it might be. Did a quik search but had no luck. It says Str. Alexander Hamilton and has a picture of a large boat. Nothing on the reverse

Very cool, maybe you found his homesite Haha. What is it made of, brass? I might try to research it later when I have time.

My guess is that it is a souvenir from Steamer Alexander Hamilton. Attached is a comparison photo showing your badge beside a souvenir badge from Carlsbad Caverns from the 1930's era.

Thanks for the quik investigations! Both creskol and jones6780 hit it on the head. Cool little souvenir piece.

That is really cool! Great find! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

That is a wonderful relic. I imagine that would be worth a few $$$$ since the ship is no longer.

Nice ID, that's awesome

Nice old relic. Great ID

Great find. I love trying to figure out the whatsits!

I knew I had seen a similar shape when I saw this post and had to dig into my old records to check something I had found some time ago...researching my little piece, I found it to be an insert to the backside of an old pewter letter opener. The insert piece was missing in the one I dug but the shape and design motif around the edges looks very similar. I guess different tourist destinations could get these letter openers and have their own insert put into the back. Just wondering if yours has attachment pins on the back or is it just blank. If it is blank and flat it may have been an insert to an opener similar to this one from Colorado's Seven Falls.

Thats interesting villagenit. Mine is flat on the back and the piece itself has a curve to it

If it is without any signs of attachments like a pin back, then it may be an insert piece to something similar like the letter opener. The curvature may be just a bend from its long journey in the ground.

Good luck searching the area! :occasion14:

I doubt the curvature is anything besides the way it was manufactured. It was actually a surface find at the site and has no signs of damage

You may never know what it was originally mounted on. I forgot that I found a souvenir dog from Virginia that has an identical style plate mounted to it.
